Subject: They was drunk gen. На минуте 3:04 Уилл Смит говорит: they was drunk, too.
Who exactly cares? |
2 SirReal Спасибо, нашла нужную строчку: "was is used for what in standard English are contexts for both was and were" |
2 Procto Спасибо огромное! Нашла: "Use of was in place of were, or other words regularizing the past tense of be to was. You was sittin' on that chair." |
К тому же дальше у него там идет, например you be jumping (with people all the time) а это уже, если я правильно понимаю, грамматика AAVE, но не SAE. |

'you was' (instead of 'you were') and 'they was' (instead of 'they were') are often (incorrectly) used by poor/working-class/poorly-educated people in the various English-speaking countries, especially in certain geographical areas, such as: * USA: many of the poor/black/rural areas inc much of the South; 'you was' and 'they was' are also used by certain men (inc some actors/rappers/pop singers/rock singers) who are trying to look 'macho'. They're not correct English, of course. |

Rus_Land: "Lies, all lies!" – it's just an evil rumour spread by people with no money! |
johnstephenson, As for G. Harrison, we reckon him a 'macho', right? ) |

No, I wouldn't call Harrison 'macho'. It was probably all the drugs he was on when he wrote that song that were affecting his mind/grammar! |

Rus_Land: What's the significance of северо-восток Москвы, then? Is it "Moscow's answer to [=Moscow's version of] London's East End"? |
johnstephenson: Yes, to some extent, I had in mind a sort of "Moscow's answer", but overall, you should take my message with a grain of salt ;-) |

"We woz robbed [=denied a victory]!" = a common expression supposedly used by British football supporters when their team's just been beaten. It implies that football supporters aren't very literate or intelligent. |
2 johnstephenson Спасибо огромное! |
