San-Sanych +1 'Mk. I', 'Mk. II' etc are usually only used with military and other equipment. However, 'Mk. II' is sometimes used figuratively to portray the person/thing as the modernised version of someone/something that has existed in the past -- as in this reference to Hawking. Sometimes, in addition, it's said in a slightly mocking way, as in these two examples: |
