In Russian there are some words which have the same sound as anothers, but differ from them in meaning. (IMHO).

If i were u, i'd use the English definition.
Homonym, homophone, and homograph designate words that are identical to other words in spelling or pronunciation, or both, while differing from them in meaning and usually in origin.

омоним - cлово, тождественное с другим по звуковой форме, но отличное от него по значению, "град" - город и "град" - метеорологическое явление.
