We always see one and the same face all the time, if I am not mistaken.
We never see "the other face of the moon" (the so-called dark side, but we don't want that) Would you rather call it "the back(side) of the moon" ... :-)

(sorry for being "slowly")

2.as for me, I like "side" more.

3.and, as I understand, just "face of the moon" is not right?
It seems logical that the only side of the moon that we see is "face".
And that side we can not see and won't ever see is "back". No?

Does the moon have day and night?

Answer: Every side on the moon experiences day and night. Since the moon rotates on its axis once each month (see previous question), any given location on the moon would see a "day" about two weeks long, followed by a "night" of the same length. Your students may make this connection themselves by realizing that the visible face of the moon is darkened (e.g., night) for about half of each month as the moon goes through its phases.

Look at the picture to the left. This amazing photograph was taken by NASA's Galileo spacecraft as it swung by Earth on its way to Jupiter. The photo is one of very few that exist that show the Earth and Moon together in the same picture. It's easy to tell which is the day and night side of Earth. The relationship is the same on the moon, which we're used to seeing in phases. There is a day and night side of the moon too.

Well, thanks A LOT, but I'm interested not in the processes on the moon itself not connected with the Earth, but exactly in the visibility/invisibility as far as the Earth is concerned.

Visible face не имеется в виду "лицо" или даже "лицевая сторона". Face -- это еще и просто "сторона" в смысле поверхность. Безотносительно. То есть бывает front face и back face, as well as right face and -- yes, left face. See now?

ну окей, не имеется в виду. А почему я не могу заиметь именно "лицевую сторону" (фейс) в виду?) Это будет нехорошо так говорить, да? Всё равно как "задница луны", только наоборот?)))
Просто мне кажется, оно красиво выходит - фейс и фейс.

короче, если сил мне отвечать больше нет (я понимаю, у меня прилив деятельности, в кои-то веки действительно на форуме что-то понадобилось ПЕРЕВЕСТИ=)), то не утруждайтесь.

Сорьки, galatea, я тут налетами - отвечаю через раз. Лицевая сторона луны, она же видимая поверхность - чисто имхошно я б сказала все же visible face, потому как есть еще и обратная сторона, то есть невидимая поверхность...тож face.

Вдобавок, у этих фейсов есть еще и sides ... :-0

Наверное, имеется в виду, что "задница" Луны открыта тем, кто смотрит на нее с другой стороны (ну мало ли...) и для них это такое же "лицо"... Т.е. проявление политкорректности :-)))

Если вышенаписанное - шутка, то заранее приношу свои извинения по причине временных перебоев с чувством юмора (вижу, вижу смайлики). Если же нет - то откройте любой нормальный толковый словарь, посмотрите ВСЕ значения слова face - делов-то ...

Уважаемая Алтея, если же мы пойдём по пути языковой экономии, то употребим просто фейс, без визибл. Слов понадобится меньше)))))(внимание - юмор (это на всякий случай=)))))))))))

но я чуваку, который спрашивал, ответила и про визибл сайд, и про виз. фейс, и про алковскую "ближайшую" сторону. Шобы никому не обидно (мне показалось, что ни один из вариантов не violates нормы).
Ну и хотя некоторые не любят ЭТО в качестве доказательства, всё же позволю немного гугла:
