The objective of the safeguard policies is to avoid, minimize, or mitigate harmful environmental impact, social costs, or marginalization of vulnerable groups that may result from development projects. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has three safeguard policies—Environment Policy (2002), Policy on Indigenous Peoples (1998), and Policy on Involuntary Resettlement (1995). Several sector policies, like the water policy and forest policy, also have safeguard elements. |
