Subject: OFF:mutilating a text
I think this might have been asked a while ago (or not so long ago, actually) but, I need some advice.
I have this Annual Statement in fron of me and the Russian, frankly (and even I can tell), just isn't very good. So the English is coming out pretty poor. I have tried to pretty it up with nice words and fancy grammar.
Do you guys think that rearranging some paragraphs and the structure of certain sections a bit will get a bad reaction? The structure lacks logic and as a result there are repeats of information in a lot of the sections. If it repeated in a different section, ok, but this thing sometimes say the same thing one sentence later as a way to intro to another. Rearranging things would help a lot.
What to do?

Thanks!

Tell your boss that the document is poorly made, and you would like to correct it a bit to make it look nicer. Tell the author of the text that you have some suggestions on how it can be imroved ... After that let them read your corrected version (if they agree to let you correct it) and say their opinion.

*What to do?*

Ask people you're translating it for. Duh! :o)

i forgot to explain: the author is my boss and he does not usually take well to criticism
he also does not like to see crappy translations, obviously or messy texts.
i am just going to rearrange it. he will survive the criticism, i hope

In any case, let him know you are going to re-arrange it. If you are a translator - that's not your responsibility to correct the original text. But we can always offer our help, if it is not re-writing the whole text, like Irisha said.
Reaction can be different. May be your boss will be happy to be helped on that. Who knows how difficult it was for him to compile this statement!

Читай: "like Brains said", not Irisha.
