It is generally recommended that you design for an up-hole between 1,600 and 2,700 m/min. If the rock is low in density or the cuttings are small you can be in the low end of the range... Higher up-hole velocities may be required in bad, fractured ground with voids or caverns, when drill very deep holes, or if there is a lot of water in the ground.
