| 2 GK: Technically "data" is the plural form of "datum." Therefore, it requires "are," i.e. "the data ARE." Some in the U.S. think that this is gratuitous grammarism, and refuse to follow this rule. Perhaps, in the U.K. people are more strict with their grammar. So, I would recommend "This data were used to plot...." or "based on these data..." |
