The past 15 years has seen the adoption in commercial buildings of lower floor loadings from the historic market norm of 4 to 5 kfsl/m2 + 1 kN/m2 for demountable partitions to 3 to 3.5 kN/m2 + 1 kN/m2 for partitions.
The principle has been to adopt these lower loadings over 95% of the floor plate whilst significantly increasing the capacity of the remaining 5% at structurally convenient locations which produces a more usable answer at less cost.
