Continuous size-variable offset inserts
An important and highly beneficial feature of the Alprinta series is the option of equipping the machine with a continuous size-variable insert system, in addition to the conventional size inserts. The wet-offset insert design includes plate cylinder, blanket cylinder and an impression cylinder. The insert re-1 mains in the press during a size! change. Only the actual sized parts - the blanket cylinder and the plate cylinder - are changed. The change is completed without tools. Separating the material web is not necessary. The sized parts are light and easy to handle, yet extremely stable. In less than 5 minutes, the plate cylinder and blanket cylinder can be changed and the press can be I changed over to a new size. Thus, the Alprinta-V possesses a size valiability that is comparable with flexo and gravure printing. The press is available in 520 mm (20.5") and 740 mm (29") and can print at a speed of up to 365 m/min (1200 fpm). It enables rapid size changes, with print lengths of 508 to 720 mm (equivalent to 20 to 28 1/3"). Miiller Martini sees size-variable offset technology as an expansion of familiar press designs. The ability to print sleeve labels in this process offers several key advantages. Users can have more flexibility in printing quality when using offset printing, whereas wide-web flexo printing reaches its limits, especially in the case of images and j fine processes. Web offset also wins points versus gravure, in particular because of the significantly faster printing forme production. This is often decisive for customers, especially in the food and beverage industry, because that industry typically must respond very quickly to unforeseen fluctuations in sales. Still another benefit is that web offset printing allows for very cost-effective production of shrink-sleeves in smaller quantities, a market share which is growing continually. The reasons for this are frequently changing promotional activities, design changes, differing product variations and varied language versions, amongst many more.
