Toe-to-Heel Air Injection (THAI)is essentially in situ combustion, but using horizontal wells so that the combustion products and heated hydrocarbons flow almost immediately downward into the horizontal production well, rather than having to channel through long distances.
Long distance channeling of combustion gases almost always leads to gravitational override and fingering.
