Subject: A pie and a pint Привет, подскажите, пож-та, действительно ли "a pie and a pint" может переводиться как "паб, пивной ресторанчик". В контексте диалога между двумя подругами одна из них говорит: "We went to a pub yesterday... Just a pie and a pint, you know...". Спасибо!

(Steak and kidney) pie and a pint (of Bass, London Courage... etc, i.e. ale) is usually what you go to a pub for. Other quintessential pub fare ("zakuski pod pivo") may include "freshly battered cod, served with chips (Americans would call it "French fries" or, after the Great Iraq Liberation War, "freedom fries"), peas and mayonnaise sauce" (="fish and chips"), sausage and mash, etc... Так что это не паб собственно, а то, что в пабе вкушают. |
