Well, Шанечка как всегда права: it's not exactly собес, because they DO NOT DISPENSE MONEY, i.e. they have no funds allocated to them, and no budget authority. Departments of Social Services exist only at LOCAL level, like for instance every local council will have a Dept. of S.S. - they mainly provide assistance to the locals who find themselves in dire straits, be it because they don't have appropriate housing, or have a family crisis, or just feel distressed, or can't find their way through the fu@@ing convoluted government system, or the like. They DON'T hand out money - THAT is handled at the NATIONAL level by the Department of Work and Pensions. Now THEY pay out enemployment benefits and the like. A Dept. of Soc. Serv. - это что-то среднее между социальными работниками и психотерапевтами. И ещё - может, лучше не Общ. службв ин-ции, а Служба Общественной Информации (и Работы с Населением). |
