Subject: Как перевевести идиому
He took another look at me, but I had my "arms crossed over my superstructure real tight" (Id.).

It's not a standard idiom. It's a phrase invented by the author in which she seems to be (humorously) likening herself to either a ship, or possibly a building or other man-made structure -- because 'superstructure' is normally only used in these contexts. So she's probably saying that she had her arms crossed over her chest to protect her breasts (from him?).

Has the text previously referred to ships/buildings/other man-made structures?

Тема этого задания - эвфемизмы.

superstructure - либо грудь, либо голова.

It's definitely a euphemism.

Я крепко скрестила руки на груди, словно оберегая свой телесный храм...

Если это на самом деле superstructure в моём понимании, то такое невозможно объять.

А что это там за пометка (Id.)? Это текст из какого-то словаря? Вот откуда взялось "идиома"...

Это задание взято из учебника по лексикологии.

Автор довольно свободно пользуется такими сокращениями как Mr., G., D., Mg. и т.д. особо не заботясь о пояснениях.

Действительно, не обратила внимание на значение использования Id.

Amor 71: That's because, I suspect, it's not to be taken literally -- it's a humorous euphemism based on the fact that 'superstructure', when used normally, makes you think of the upper part of sth.

Similarly, 'the crown jewels' is sometimes used in UK English as a humorous euphemism for a man's genitals -- because 'crown jewels' refers to a nation's/monarch's most valuable assets. Example:

* 'He became very drunk, started fighting, and kicked me in the crown jewels'.

Either that, or the (Ukrainian) author has misused the word 'superstructure'.

It was a joke, John. "Superstructure" melons. Can't imagine crossing arms around them, unless arms themselves are superstructure four or five feet long.
