Subject: beat titles Пожалуйста, помогите перевести.Выражение встречается в статье о победителях книжной премии. Об одной из них, занявшей первое место, говорится: "She beat titles including "Three Women" by Lisa Taddeo and "My Sister, the Serial Killer" by Oyinkan Braithwaite to the award... В следующий раз не забудьте привести свой вариант перевода. beat - обогнать, перегнать, победить кого-л. в гонке/соревновании и т. п. titles - в данном случае "книги, произведения" Как вариант: ..., опередив [в финале/по итогам] книги A и Б. Или так: Второе и третье места заняли книги A и Б . |

Aiduza +1 It's the past simple. Unfortunately 'to beat', like hundreds of English verbs, is irregular -- the past simple is 'beat' (ie, the same as the present tense) rather than 'beated', which doesn't exist. * 'Yesterday Everton beat [not beated] Aston Villa 3-1 in the FA Cup Final'. It's just to confuse translators and foreigners! |
