Amor71, я встречала именно в таком словосочетании, хотя без контекста, как всегда, мой вариант не единственно правильный. [I apologize, but I have to switch over to English, my Russian is struggling]. This usually means that a client must sign up for a specific type of insurance coverage prior to receiving or providing (depending on the situation) services. What usually follows is the description of that mandatory coverage (used to cover the other party in case something happens). e.g. A maintenance contractor may have to get liability insurance prior to signing a large contract. or A bank occasionally requires life insurance to be taken out by the client and that it must be ceded to the bank. |

Thanks, metrobelarus, I got it. In UK English, when we sign an insurance agreement for insurance cover, the most common expression used is to 'take out a policy'. Although I am familiar with many US expressions and equivalents, I am really not sure about this term and can't imagine a native US English speaker saying: "have you taken out an insurance policy to cover this risk?" - although I could be wrong. Amor 71, It is true that "buying" or "purchasing", perhaps even "getting", insurance is more prevalent in the conversational American English. Still, in most types of legal paperwork that I had a chance to work on - a more formal "take out insurance" is used. |
