During this period of induction at the hospice, there are several objectives which must be reached prior to taking on the responsibility of a shift coordinator and/or progressing to a Band 6 nurse.

• The core competencies must be completed:
(i) Naso –gastric feeding
(ii) Gastrostomy care
(iii) Tracheostomy care
(iv) Infusion Pump proficiency
(v) Medication administration and drug calculation test
(vi) Respiratory care (to include ventilation training for nurses)
(vii) Dysphagia
(viii) Weighing

• A number of “booking in” of families on admission should be completed (to include the strategies for drug transcription etc).
