Direct solenoid operated spool valves are employed on all Franklin Hydraulic Units. Electrical controls provide the most versatile and inexpensive method of hydraulic control. They control the start, stop, and direction of fluid flow to hydraulic cylinders.

These directional valves consist of the housing, one or two solenoids, the control spool, and one or two control springs. In the de-energized condition, the spool is held by the return spring(s) in the center or a spring offset position (except for detented spools). The spool is shifted by energizing the wet pin solenoids.
