Subject: Gaining Knowledge, Leaving Behind Safety gen. Всем доброго времени суток! Нужна помощь в переводе следующего заглавия:Gaining Knowledge, Leaving Behind Safety Контекст: следующая статья по защищенным КПК Буду очень благодарен любой подсказке, т.к. хотя и понимаю смысл ("Получаем знания, забываем о безопасности"?) но красиво перевести затрудняюсь (речь идет о защищенных устройствах и как раз исходя из этого меня и сбивает с толку "leaving behind", по логике должно наоборот быть что-то в духе "Получаем знания, НЕ забываем о безопасности" или "... / Улучшаем безопасность" учитывая рекламный характер статьи). Возможно до конца не уловил суть указанного словосочетания? Прошу помочь дельным советом. Заранее спасибо |

ИМХО: оставляя после себя безопасность. Приобретаем знания, обесиечиваем безопасность/надежность. |

"Приобретаем знания, обеспечиваем безопасность" Имеет смысл, в любом случае звучит определенно лучше, спасибо! |
| Смысл заголовка как правило раскрывается из озаглавливаемого материала, прочтите статью и объясните заголовок в ее свете. |

ключевая фраза статьи уже в первом абзаце: "... will have a lasting impact on the safety of the campus even after they’re gone." они в этом проекте и знания приобретают - и за собой оставляют большую кучу safety (чем она была до них) |

wow2+1 The English in that article is 10/10 -- but 'leaving behind' is a pretty daft phrase to use in the heading, as it's ambiguous. As wow2 says, if you read the article it becomes clear that they mean 'leaving a legacy of safety' here. 'Leaving behind' usually means 'abandoning'/'forgetting about', so it's a badly-written heading. |

To John Thank you for the help with that phrase, I have been translating such articles before and was sure it should be connected with safety, but I have never seen such examples of "leaving behind" as "leaving some legacy", at least now I could be sure I have understood it right +1 Wow2, Спасибо за помощь! |

'Leaving (sth) behind' doesn't normally mean 'leaving (sth) as a legacy'. It's a non-standard use of the term. I only understood the heading's meaning after reading the full text. When used in this way it's usually in a negative sense, as in: * 'The Germans were driven out of the Soviet Union, leaving behind them chaos and destruction'. ('leaving in their wake' means the same thing in this case). 'To leave (sth) behind' usually means either 'to abandon'/'to forget to take with one'/'to deliberately not take with one', as in: * 'I drove to work but left my briefcase behind' [ie, at home -- deliberately or by mistake]. |

This one was quite useful ['leaving in their wake' means the same thing in this case], i.e. such a use of the mentioned phrase is rather an exception than a rule. Thanks for this example as well [When used in this way it's usually in a negative sense], it was informative + 1 guys! |
