Subject: lost motion “sponginess” gen. Здравствуйте, помогите, пожалуйста, с переводом. Контекст следующий:It is important securely anchor the cable hubs. Looseness of the mounting brackets will be perceived as lost motion “sponginess” and will inhibit détente fell. Спасибо. |
Из словарной базы: to anchor the cable hubs – закреплять канатные узлы / узлы троса looseness – наличие зазоров, слабость (крепления) the mounting brackets – монтажные кронштейны be perceived – восприниматься lost motion or “sponginess” – холостой (мёртвый) ход; свободный ход или рыхлость (рыхлая структура) inhibit – замедлять détente fell – ослабление натяжения / напряжения при падении sponginess – compressible, property of being able to occupy less space Лишь при наличии полного контекста эту картинку можно правильно себе представить и затем перевести. Иначе трудно гадать, о чем конкретно идет речь в Вашем случае; возможно, о спуске какого-то бесценного груза, и если Вы его плохо закрепите, то груз может сорваться, а Вам за это могут оторвать голову (шутка, конечно). |

'important securely' => 'important to securely' 'spongy' (of a mechanism) = 'not feeling firm when compressed'/'yielding or having an 'elastic' feel, rather than a solid feel, when compressed'. Example: 'spongy brakes'. упругость??? 'détente fell' doesn't make sense in English. 'détente' is used only in international relations, to mean a reduction in tension between countries. 'fell' probably means 'a fall in ....'/'a drop in ....'/'a reduction in ....' So this has been written in/translated into English by a non-native speaker. |
fell => feel возможно |
Arina May, From the internet resources I found a relevant link to the theme described by you about cables: http://orschelnproducts.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/HP-Control-Cables-Hardware-Catalog.pdf And as wow2 already rightly suggested, "fell" should be "feel": Here is a good word "detent" instead of "détente". Besides, I'd love to correct my own writing in terms of "sponginess": there should have been indicated "compressibility" (and not its adjective form "compressible"). Back to your original concluding ending "will inhibit détente fell", |

kentgrant: That catalogue's an excellent find. I'm not sure about your last paragraph, though; I assume you're saying that 'tongue-in-cheek' (ie, not 100% seriously)? So someone, somewhere -- the asker, perhaps? -- has misspelt two adjacent words when copying it. |
