Subject: To extent that gen.
Здравствуйте, коллеги!
Подскажите, есть ли какой-то устоявшийся перевод словосочетания To extent that. Перевожу описание работы сувальдного замка. Контекст: "The underlying idea is to prevent the movement for lock picking.
To extent that, an additional lock comprises a guding pin as shown in fig"

Очень похоже на случай корявого английского в исполнении турецкого или китайского переводчика. Вероятно хотели написать To that extent подразумевая to that end ... я бы на вашем месте считал что написано To achieve that...

There's no English phrase 'to extent that' -- only
* 'to that extent' and
* 'to the extent that ......'

However, I suspect that here, the author meant to say 'To that end', which means 'with this (objective/goal) in mind', the 'objective' here being to prevent the lock being picked.

'To that extent' comes from the expression 'to the extent that ......', which means 'insofaras', as in (for example):
* 'I'm sorry I left my wife for another woman, but only to the extent that [=insofaras] she was left with no money. Yes, to that extent, I'm very sorry. But I'm not sorry I was unfaithful to her, because she'd already been unfaithful to me on two occasions'.

Also, 'to prevent the MOVEMENT for lock-picking' isn't English. It should be:

* 'to prevent the lock being picked'
or just
* 'to prevent lock-picking'.

I've found that document of yours online. The English in the document overall is about 8/10, but that sentence is 3-4/10 -- it has several errors in it.

'To extent that, it is very important that to keep the position of the plurality of plates in the safety locks for any type illicit opening'

is badly-written and is an incomplete sentence. It should probably read something like:

'(TO PREVENT THIS or THEREFORE), it is very important that, to MAINTAIN the positionS of the VARIOUS plates in the safety locks (DURING or AND PREVENT) any type OF illicit opening, ........' [end of sentence missing].

'manipulated by an unauthorized person by a lock pick'

should read:

'manipulated by an unauthorized person (BY USE OF or BY MEANS OF or USING) a lock pick'.
