Avoid using 'palace', unless you're emphasising the Soviet/Russian nature of the organisation -- as in Palace of Culture -- as it's normally only used in English for huge, very ornate homes lived in by royalty/very wealthy aristocrats/some foreign presidents. 'Sports center' (US)/'sports centre' (UK) is probably best, as our exploding friend has suggested. If you think it's for use by those aged 1-12, use 'children's'. If it refers to teenagers (13-19), use 'youth', as teenagers don't like to be called 'children'. If it refers to both, there isn't a convenient single word in English that covers both groups, so you may need to use something like 'young persons' sports centre'. |
