"Up" here doesn't necessarily mean that the car/person is travelling upwards, as in 'up a hill' or 'up an incline'. It really means 'towards me/us'. The drive could have gone uphill, but it could equally have been level. Similarly, "A lorry came up the road and passed the front of my vehicle"; and 'Came up to me/us' usually just means 'approached me/us'. |
