Subject: Irish = цыгане ??? Почему в переводе фильма Гая Ричи "Большой куш" ирландцев называют цыганами? Просветите, пожалуйста!

he was probably one of the Irish who in Ireland are actually considered gypsies.... i know they have them in Ireland and now cant remember what they call them there, but he is probably one of them..... brad pitt plays one in "snatch" i think |

Не знаю, как там насчет ирландцев, это наверное, переводчики под шумок их решили тоже к цыганам приписать, которые pikeys :) . Pikey is a pejorative slang term used in the United Kingdom. The term originally referred to a gypsy as a contraction of the word "turnpike", but in recent years the definition has become looser and it is sometimes used to refer to a wide section of the (generally urban) underclass of the country, particularly those on whom the lower middle classes look down. However, when used to refer to gypsies it clearly has racist connotations. |

| Gypsies - к сожалению, так в Великобритании еще ошибочно называют людей, не являющихся этническими цыганами, а т.н. travellers - это люди живут в автокараванах, детей в школу не посылают, не владеют домами и зарегистрированы нигде - они называются travellers,а на слэнге их обзывают gypsies - один из примеров - Wayne Rooney знаменитый сейчас молодой футболист из семьи Irish gypsies - это иммигранты из Ирландии, которые являются travellers, их обзывают gypsies из-за бродячего образа жизни. |
