I wonder how many of you are familiar with the Sokal hoax. It demonstrates that it is easy to write a text which appears to mean something, but which. in fact, means nothing at all. Alan Sokal wrote a spoof article to show that it can be done. He then submitted it to a learned journal, who published it, thinking it was serious. It seems to me that it has huge implications for translators. I would be interested to know whether there is any Russian literature on the affair.
