Subsequently, a magnetic resonance (MR) examination (Intera, Philips, Best, The Netherlands) revealed the nodular lesion in the lower pole of the spleen. On respiratory-triggered T2-weighted fat-suppressed turbo-spin-echo images (Fig. 1C), the nodule was overall hypointense to the splenic parenchyma, with some hyperintense
areas. On T1-weighted turboFLASH images (Fig. 1D), the lesion was slightly inhomogeneous and appeared overall hypointense relatively to the splenic parenchyma.
The out-of-phase images failed to demonstrate any area of signal intensity decrease. After administration of Gadolinium-DTPA (Magnevist, Schering, Berlin, Germany) a rather poor peripheral enhancement (Fig. 1E) of the lesion was seen on a fat-suppressed 3D T1-weighted gradient echo sequence during the arterial phase.
