Use of Supplementary Variable Load
Supplementary Variable is additional variable load which may be taken onboard the unit during normal drilling operations. The purpose of supplementary variable is to permit an increased amount of consumables onboard the unit when drilling in favorable weather; it must be removed prior to the arrival of severe weather.
The amount of variable load permitted both while drilling and during a severe storm can be found under Variable Load (Chapter I, Section 13.1 of the Operating Manual). The difference between the two allowable variable loads is the amount of supplementary variable permitted on the Unit. Complete a Load Form including the effect of supplementary variable.
The OIM must develop a procedure for removing the supplementary variable in the event of a storm and pre-calculate a severe storm loading condition ***based on the remaining condition.
