Subject: Пошлятины? gen. Всем привет...Кто-то знает, что значит "пошлятин(ы)"? Я это вижу нередко в Интернете, на Ютубе и.т.д. Я предполагаю, что слово сослается на что-либо пошлое, то есть, что-то банальное. Но если кто-то знает точнее определение этого слова, не будете ли вы так любезны добавить его в словарь? Спасибо |

Toast2 and AsIs, I knew what poshloe is, just not "poshliatiny," although I had a pretty good guess...C'mon now, read the original post. Fayzee, does "бот" also mean geek or nerd? Multitran doesn't list that translation. If it's a correct one, I think you should add it. Anyway, in the context of x-z's post, it sure sounded like it meant "bot." |

Fulmerford обратите внимание на окончание: пошлятинА (жен.род) если же вы где-то видели с -Ы (пошлятинЫ), то видимо это окончание падежное (не именительного падежа) |

(продолжая мысль sw относительно окончаний) я склоняюсь к мысли, что "пошлятина" -- singularia tantum |

Silly.Wizard--Yes, you're right, I should have posted my question as "poshliatina." But poshliatiny could also be a nominative plural form, if you're right that a plural form in fact exists. I intended it as the nominative plural form when I was posting the question. I'm trying to understand--does "poshliatina" mean "an example of poshlost'/a thing that is poshloe," or does it mean "poshlost'" in general? Knowing this would go some way towards answering the question of whether it is a countable noun. -- Vasya_krolikow, thank you! Fayzee, ahem. |

I think пошлятина differs from пошлость in that it's a) singularia tantum (only used in singular) and b) a collective noun. Пошлость can also be used as a collective noun, and can be used either in singular or plural. Cf: Он сказал пошлость. -- he said something vulgar/made a vulgar statement |
