Subject: Не пропадать же добру Контекст: допустим, сделала я человеку работу, однако, выяснилось, что расплатиться он не сможет. Хочу отправить ее ему на мыло, но так, чтобы он это легко принял и не чувствовал себя должником. Думаю, по смыслу приписка "Не пропадать же добру" будет в самый раз. Может, есть аналогичная поговорка в английском? Конечно, можно и буквально, " i dont want to waste my labor" , но хотелось бы покрасивше и полегче, с широкого плеча, так сказать.

| Дошло, почему мне не нравится. Акцент. В предложенных фразах акцентируется на мне, такой добренькой и на добром деле. А мне нужен акцент на " ну не пропадать же, не выбрасывать же...", т е как можно безличнее и безразличнее. Легко |

Отвлекаясь от вопроса аскера, надо заметить, что англ. фраза "Let's not waste a good thing" звучит нейтрально (если не гримасничать при произнесении оной:)), а вот в русском "аналоге" чувствуется ирония - "[да ладно, чего уж там] - не пропадать же". это, конечно, мое частное мнение. |

SR, оставьте- это Вам было адресовано, в смысле (Ах) оставьте- это значит "не продолжайте"- old-fashioned expression такое... What I actually meant was " it's no use trying to explain things to someone who doesn't want to hear, so don't waste your time and effort" And yes, that was supposed to be a joke:) |

My tuppence: “Let's not waste a good thing” hits too sombre a note for my liking.. Wolverin’s “just do not become a freebies junkie” and “I hope you'll choke on it, you creep” are witticisms worthy of a Walmart parking lot.. -1. The coolest of the bunch so far is, without a doubt, Тимурыч – his trash can association seems to me the way to go – although I would rework it a bit: “Anyhow, you may want to take advantage of this complimentary [whatever it is] and thus save it from an obscure end in my trash can.” |

Почему вы решили, что расплата возможна только деньгами? а моя работа- это нечто, что возможно выбросить в корзину? "Let's not waste a good thing. Где Вы тут увидели акцент на себе? Слова "я", "мне", "мое"? " Здесь акцент и на "good thing", и на Let's, что звучит еще более лично, чем "я", "мне", "мое", т к вовлекает и "личность" ч-ка тоже, не спрашивая его желания, на минуточку И еще важный момент. Бритский, блин, менталитет. Не можешь выразиться опосредованно- идешь лесом)) Кстати, в книжке по ссылке выше об этом упоминается ! |

второе: вы пока что прошлись по тому, чего вам НЕ подошло. а по теме вы добавили позитива только одно слово, что надо "опосредованно" (wtf that means) ... образно что-ли вам надо? или не называя вещи своими именами? давайте конкретнее ситуацию, что за артифакты, и что за ограничения (примеры того, чего по-вашему нельзя упоминать буквально в этой фразе). |

Alisa2, а, может, выразить всё простыми словами, типа: In any case, the work is done. And I decided to send my translation to you. Just take it easy. Money is not the only thing to care of. I feel more comfortable if my translation is used, and hate the idea that the only thing I can do is to throw it into a waste bin (или - don't like the idea that a waste bin is the only right place for it now). |
