The “complex spring” analogy can be used to illustrate strain measurement.
Strain is derived from tissue displacement after compression – if tissue is hard,
like the stiff spring, a small displacement and therefore lower strain value is
induced. Softer tissues, similar to the soft section of the spring, give rise to larger
strain value measurements.
