The most important aspect on cigarette pressure drop, is the smoke yield delivered to the smoker during smoking. This compiles the amount of smoke as well as the concistency there off.
The open pressure drop is directly linked to what the smoker will perceive when smoking the cigarettes. The closed pressure drop shows the variation in pressure drop in the filter and tobacco rod and is the potential impact of the smoke yield to the smoker.

The smoker can compensate for a shift in average open cigarette pressure drop by increasing the “suction” on the cigarette. This will however not ensure a constant smoke yield and smoke impact because of the variations in the closed pressure drop.

It basically means that as the pressure drop in the tobacco rod increases, more fresh air is sucked into the smoke stream diluting the smoke impact.

Variations in pressure drop is directly linked to the homogeniety of the cut rag particle sizes in the cigarette rod. As shown in the pictures on cut rag from the cigarette, this variations are caused by “big” pieces of exspanded stem.
Optimizing of the process as described, should improve this situation and yield more homegeneous pressure drop results.
