The most common buildings in the city are so called "stalin-type" and "chruschov-type", which were constructed in 30th - 60th, as well as panelized 9-16 floor buildings, technical condition of which is ... |
Brick apartment houses of 1930-s and 1960-s along with the later type 9-16-story concrete panel apartment houses the most common/dominant type of public housing in the city. |
Mistakes correction: Brick apartment houses of 1930-s and 1960-s along with the later type 9-16-story concrete panel apartment houses that are dilapidated and in poor condition are the most common/dominant type of public housing in the city. |
Consider: The city is dominated by Stalin era (1930s), Khruschev era (1960s) and modern 9-16-storey panel residential buildings, all of which have reached or are nearing the end of their useful lives. |

tumanov The outside is brick but the bricks are actually mostly pre-constructed brick panels and the insides (toilets) were actually pre-fabricated "pods" hoisted up and in and connected.... so... |
I know. Valentina has in mind 'prefabs'. |
Tumanov But saying that they are brick houses makes them sound somehow sturdier and more long-lasting than they are or were planned to be. |
But they are still sturdy :0) The Design * that thing has made them ugly. |
Tumanov Maybe in Eestis they are still holding up well, but certainly not here in Venemaal. :) |
Sa oled v´jaga kaval! :0) |
Tumanov I'm being tricksy? Or do you mean finesse? |
The latter. But... I like the way your thoughts are heading... |
Tumanov ha! |
**The city is dominated by Stalin era (1930s), Khruschev era (1960s) and modern 9-16-storey panel residential buildings, all of which have reached or are nearing the end of their useful lives.** В кои-то веки порадовала Сюзан своим переводом. ) |
Speaking of Stalin era housing, it's 1950's, sooner. Esp. as regards Nikolaev, outlying not only in the former Soviet Union, but also in the Ukraine (then with "the", if this rubs someone wrong). As follows from http://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Сталинка they only began to build them in the LATE 1930's. There was little housing construction in the 1940s, because of WWII (when Nikolaev was held by the Nazis quite a while, for that matter), but they returned to it in the early 1950's. |
