1) will cover или covers? и есть ли какое-то правило? Наверно, можно предложение и по-другому перевести. Мой вариант неудачен. Просто этот вопрос меня давно интересует. Вроде, по логике буд. время, но где-то на задворках моей памяти какое-то правило смутно маячит, следуя которому наст. время в придаточном должно быть. Подскажите, пожалуйста.

соединяются - when, whenever,while, as, after, before, till, until, as soon as, as long as, since, by the time (that), directly, etc
в придаточных предложениях времени будущее время не употребляется: Future Indefinite заменяется Present Indefinite, Future Continuous - Present Continuous, Future Perfect - Present Perfect
после till, until (пока не, до тех пор пока не) глагол придаточного предложения стоит в утвердительной форме, но если глагол поставить в отрицательной форме, то предложение будет иметь отрицательный смысл
если русский союз когда употреблен со значением в то время как, то он соответствует союзу while или as
к тому времени, когда переводится на английский язык by the time that (that часто опускается)
наречие тогда, которое в русском языке иногда предшествует союзу когда, на английский не переводится

Фишка в том, что в нашем случае - это не условное придаточное.

Certain modal auxiliary verbs (mainly will, may, might, and could) are not usually used in the condition clause (protasis) in English:
