Subject: Friction Number transp. Friction Testing Trailer: The transducer is manufactured from a solid block of steel and is mounted on the trailer axle. Each side of the transducer twists during testing. The bridges of the transducer are wired with strain gauges which measure torque as the testing wheel slides along the pavement surface at 40 mph. The measured torque is used to calculate a Friction Number (FN). This value is not used to evaluate safety or stopping distance, but rather to compare pavement characteristics and to measure performance over time.Friction Number?
