Slava: The verb "to batter" connotes * intentional * harm done to the object of this "battery". Note how dictionary.com defines this word: 1. To hit heavily and repeatedly with violent blows. 2. To subject to repeated beatings or physical abuse. 3. To damage, as by heavy wear. Note also, that the third definition is not in wide use (at least not in the U.S.) I understand what you are saying about "более образно", but I think that it would be "слишком образно." True, if I am talking about a situation, when I vandalize a car by taking, say, a baseball bat to it, puncturing its tires, taking it for a drive through harsh terrain, repeatedly hitting it with other cars, then I think this expression would fit. I am sure there are other, less dramatic, situations when your word would fit perfectly, too. I just don't think that the provided context warrants this interpretation. BTW, if you want to be creative, you could say "wrinkled", too. Although, you probably wouldn't see this word in a police report about a car accident, it would be a way to say it "образно".
