1.2.8 Turning Gear
Turning gear of steam turbines is used:
 after the turbo-generator shut-down, to ensure uniform cooling of the turbine rotors
 before the start-up of the Unit, before opening of the gland steam feeding valves

The turning gear is of the mechanical gear type, with an AC electric motor drive and a frequency exchanger. It is placed on the top of the bearing pedestal where the connection between the turbine and the generator rotors is situated. The turning gear operation is fully automatic.
