Мой вариант был такой:[Utility name] can create various _connections_ of serial ports: [далее следует перечисление типов соединений (one-to-many, many-to-one и many-to-many) с пояснениями] При проверке "connections" исправили на "connection types": Хотелось бы знать, какой вариант является более правильным. (Гугление по строчке "connections of * ports" почему-то дает гораздо больше нахождений, чем гугление по "connection types of * ports".) Заранее спасибо за любые мнения. |

BUT В данном случае, Вы вводите перечисление этих соединений, поэтому со стилистической точки зрения, сэксуальнее будет звучать вводное предложение в такой, например, форме: ... can create the following types (OR DIRECTLY: three types) of serial port connections: - One-to-many - .... - Many-to-one -.... - ... |

| Возможно, я ошибаюсь, но мне всё же кажется ненужным особо выделять "типы"... Ведь подразумевается, что утилита способна создавать именно _всевозможные_ соединения последовательных портов, а не то, что она создает такие-то типы соединений. Именно поэтому я поставил "various" перед "connections". |

I think you are overemphasizing form over content. I would agree with your suggestion to get rid of "types", if it were not for the list of connections that follow the sentence. As a generic statement, your variant might be OK. But I can't tell with a great degree of certainty without seeing the whole text and knowing what exactly the author tries to describe. I personally wouldn't use "the utility can create serial port connections". Instead, I'd say something like "You can use the utility to establish connection between serial ports" OR "establish a serial port connection" OR "establish a connection through/via a serial port". All have nuances in meaning, and without knowing the context I can't really say what's best. At the same time, there may be many ways of saying the same thing. It's a many-to-one relationship, in other words. You have to choose one way of saying it and stick to it throughout. Good luck! |
