It happened in a crowDED bus during rush hour. *I would skip the article before "rush hour." You can say "THE rush hourS," if you are referring to a particular time of day (e.g. from 4 to 6 pm), or to commonly known "typical rush hours," (e.g. morning commute, after-work commute). I guess, if you are referring to a specific one hour interval during the day, you may say "THE rush hour," but in the absence of context, I would skip the "the". |

| Так ИНОГДА говорят в отношении направления (в автобус), в качестве фразового глагола. Но если Вы хотите сказать ехать на автобусе. То так говорить нельзя. |
| По-моему, можно сказать on a crowded bus - в переполненном автобусе. Но предлоги - это не"моя стихия" (с). :-) |

I am with Аристарх: "I went there on the bus" sounds strange. But: "On the bus" is acceptable in AmE, in sentences like "When I got on the bus" or "stay on that bus until you pass 5th Avenue." I guess, you can say "I was ON a crowded bus," but my preference would be "IN a crowded bus." I think it may be one of those "local" language preferences. In most parts of the U.S., you would hear "I was in line for two hours to get those concert tickets". In New York, they say "I was ON line for two hours...." I guess, that was my long-winded, "I-wanna-sound-smart-but-realy-dont-know-squat" answer to your grammar question. Sorry. ;-( |
