Please share your opinion about the following sentence:

'It is a little village, of great antiquity, having been founded by some of the Dutch colonists...'
Does it have the same sense that:
'It is a little village, of great antiquity, founded by some of the Dutch colonists...'
If it is so, then for what purpose having been is used here? Does it give some specific hue to this sentence?
If it is not, then what is the difference?
...

..As far as the choice among that was founded, that had been founded and having been founded, I believe you are now looking at matters of style. I could explain the syntax of each, but semantics and nuance--the art of prose--is what Irving is trying to achieve, and I am not sure how I can explain that.

It is a little village, of great antiquity, having been founded by some of the Dutch colonists, in the early times of the province, just about the beginning of the government of the good Peter Stuyvesant, (may he rest in peace!) and there were some of the houses of the original settlers standing within a few years, built of small yellow bricks brought from Holland, having latticed windows and gable fronts, surmounted with weather-cocks.

Having + been + past participle -
