The community mental health team (CMHT) is made up of multi-disciplinary Intake and Enhanced teams.

Intake teams receive all initial mental health referrals and have access to detailed information about individuals who are known to; Kent County Council Social Services, Medway Council Social Services, West Kent NHS and Social Care Trust and the East Kent NHS Social Care Partnership Trust. Part of the role of the intake teams is to screen and assess individuals under the NHS and Community Care Act 1990 and the Mental Health Act 1983. Intake and enhanced teams work with people who have a confirmed or provisional diagnosis of mental illness and require specialist treatment or management, which is based on the likely duration, severity and prognosis of the illness.

Enhanced teams work with service users suffering from severe and enduring mental illness and who need intensive support from health and social services. The teams provide treatment and care as well as other services.
