 Anti-twist:
The natural tendancy of denim to turn diagonally in relation to the orientation of the weave is corrected.  Bell bottom:
A specific style of jeans, born in the 60s, which became popular in the 70s. Narrow waisted (and sometimes low), also tight-fitting around the thighs, they get wider from the knees (lower leg flared).  Bleach: A bleaching process with sodium hypochlorite or with potassium permanganate. The latter may add a yellow tone, little appreciated by the purists.  Boot cut:
Jeans with straight legs and the bottom of the legs flared making it easier to wear large western boots.
 Button fly:
Button fly, the original jeans fly. Zipper fly is a comparativelymodern addition.
 Core dyeing:
Typical for good quality denim. The colour penetrates the interior of the yarn.  Dips: Indicates how many times the yarn has been drenched in the dye: on average 6, and up to 8 or 12 times at the most.  Dyeing: Dyeing is the phase of the manufacture of denim during which the natural warp yarn is dipped a certain number of times into the dye. After each dipping, the yarn oxidizes and the colour then changes from yellow to green and to blue. Finally, the yarn is rinsed several times in order to eliminate excess particles.  Easy fit:
A popular style with wide, straight legs and a wide waist held up by a belt.  Five pocket jeans:
The standard jeans. Like their name implies, they have five pockets, (two at the front, two at the back and a small additional pocket in front which originally was used to carry tools).  Genova: The original Italian name for denim. The Italian town claims to be the birth place of the indigo canvas frequently used in jeans.
Label: A label is usually attached to the back at waist height. Originally in stamped or printed leather, more often also woven, plastic, rubber , metal, etc.  Lapped seam:
Visible lapped seams are a typical detail of denim wear, as the seams are on the visible side of the garment.  Mercerized: Treatment of the cotton prior to dyeing, carried out with corrosive soda so that the colour stays on the surface of the yarn only and to obtain better fabric density (resistance to tears).  Outseam: Exterior stitching: the outside lapped seam, from the waist to the hemline.  Rivet: Metal fastener used in jeans to fix pockets to the garment. Normally they are placed in the corners of pockets.
Sand blasting: A process where industrial grade sand (used for cleaning rusted metal in shipyards) is blasted under high pressure on to denim garments to give a local "worn" look on front and back leg panels.  Tapered: The legs of the trousers get smaller towards the ankle.  Worker: Heavy denims for manual workers, in extra large sizes, with practical details
