With 70% of the components to be sourced locally and about 12% duty on imports and a similar percentage of costs on logistics, Indian auto companies prefer component manufacturing to be placed in India. This also facilitates JIT (Just- in- time) delivery. Toyota, though, is the only company in India practicing JIT currently.
Tata and other major companies are on the way to practice that. ‘Suppliers park’ collocated around its new plants and in-sequence just-in-time delivery of modular assemblies direct in line.
