Operation
The shaft, to which the terminal lever, yoke and spring retaining arm are fastened, is a pivot point. Around this pivot point is a clockwise (as seen from the spring end) movement of the weights on the yoke. This pivot point also has a counterclockwise (also seen from the spring end) movement of the spring tension on the arm equal in length to a vertical line from the center of the shaft (pivot point) to the line of action of the spring tension. The linkage to the fuel pump is made so that the clockwise (weight) action makes the fuel decrease. The counterclockwise (spring) action increases fuel. When the engine is at idle, the spring force holds the throttle wide open. When the engine is running the system is in balance and the two movements are equal.
