Subject: At/in the lesson of
Нас учили at the lesson of math/Russian ... Однажды я перевел at the lesson of art. Мой шеф (Brit.) поправил меня in the lesson of art (or art lesson) и добавил, что никогда не слышал at the lesson.

In the lesson вроде чаще используется. Амеры вместо lesson говорят class, но, как и англичане, используют "in": in (this) class.

americans (and canadians, too, btw) would say, in my art (appreciation) class. the word in the brackets is optional because in american institutions of higher learning studying art is usually limited to art 101- art appreciation, which is a required elective. rare is an american who would voluntarily chose to go beyond art 101 and delve just an inch deeper. which is not to put down americans, they have exccelent qualities and most of them are salt of the earth nice falks, it is just love of art is not in their genetic makeup. tal'

tal - you're so full of it! :)) in my first school (SUNY) art 101 was not a required elective yet loads of people took it and went beyond. you're just perpetuating the commonplace notion that all americans are spiritually, artistically and creatively bereft. salt of the earth, from your lips, has distinct sounds of condescention. i'm not on a crusade nor should you think that i'm offended, i just dislike sweeping generalizations. no offense.

kath, u say i am full of it? u know, it takes one to know one :))) i m not perpetuating any myths, i just tell it as i see it. as for culture, lack of interest in it has become an international phenomenon that afflicts three quarters of the world no matter the nationality. do not look for put downs where there rnt any, kath. just a suggestion. tal'
