Compact retention is an ongoing issue with Tricone bits. The HardRok product line utilizes alternating hole depths as a way to incorporate as many long barrel compacts as possible on a given design. The alternating hole depth is a patented feature and the purpose is to allow for more long barrel compacts as well as minimize hole bottom alignment. This results in tighter sections between compacts and therefore more compacts can be placed on a given design.
