Subject: the work took them twice as long as they had planned
Подскажите, пож-та, как лучше на английском выразить мысль "на то, чтобы выполнить эту работу, у них ушло в два раза больше времени, чем они планировали". Спасибо.

Your sentence is fine. Here are some other, by no means limited, options, all depending on how you want to sound:

it had taken them twice as long to perform/fulfill/do the job/task/work than they had originally planned

this job/task took them twice as long than they had planned/calculated/estimated

they required twice as much time to do this job than they expected/planned/calculated

the man hours needed to perform the job at hand proved to be two times than what they had planned on

the time calculated for this job was doubled during its actual performance, etc.

"twice as long than..." ?
Sure?
Doesn't "twice as long as" or alternatively, two times longer than... sound better to you?
Waddya say?
