kinsman i am an american. i know my people. i know how we tend to make things sound tender and endearing. and i'm not so confident about everything. just about what i know. and the ways in which americans twist the language and use intonation to express themsleves i know very well. you can trust me on this one. chubby is not only for children though people do tend to use plump or round for adults. but that's not endearing. pudgy and chubby are endearing which is exactly why we use it with children so often. they are too cute for words like fatso, round, plump. :) they are chubby, pudgy, roly-poly little bundles of poodgie joy! :)))) |

Perhaps it's largely my fault cause English is not my native languages but at times your English translation looks a bit awkward for a native speaker so it actually it is a revelation 4 me that u r an american. No offense meant, none in world, may be it happens cause u r not a professional translator. Other natives here on this forum show more confidence and proficiency. Awfully sorry for being so blunt but that's the way I feel about it. Perhaps I would be more appreciative of your skills and ability later on but u r a bit shaky with the language, not on the best terms so to speak. I do not say it because I am arrogant sos or some monumental p..k as one might see me, just because can feel no other way. Please do make light of all I said if it sounds churlish. I repeat: I mean no offense. |

kinsman regarding translations on this post - they would sound truly bizarre to anyone who did not grow up in "that" world. they sound bizarre even to us but they are parts of our language. and yes, i am not a professional translator. i am a beginner and unfortunately for me have spent too much time absorbing (accidentally) russian english mistakes and forgetting my own language (i have been living in russia for some time now). sometimes, the first translation attempt comes out kind of russian sounding because i am trying to grasp the meaning of the russian first before making it english in the end. sorry if this makes you think i am not educated, know nothing, and all that. with english i am not shaky. with translating i am shaky if i do not go back and rework it until it is 100% english. and no offense (there were some points which bothered me - i can be a stickler at times) |

| Nina, thanks for correcting my version, if u were an observant reader (which as well may be the case here) u would notice that i make similar mistakes or omissions in my Russian because i am an awfully absent-minded person. I am genuinely sorry for leading u to believe that I think of as a poorly educated person. I actually did not dare to go father than saying that u make an impression of lacking all the hallmarks of a real pro in translation. That's all. But maybe it is damn good and will definitely, i am sure, work to your advantage that u seem to have absorbed so much of Russian to make me believe at first that u might be a Russian girl. Your Russian appeared to be smoother and more natural that is why I never once suspected that u might be an American. |

А вот как это никто не приметил, что "нэйтив, знающий свой язык и прочия, и прочия" немудрствуя лукаво "выправил" кинсмановский arrogant sos на arrogant sob (см. пост от 02.08.2006 16:24), когда одного взгляда на клавиатуру достаточно, чтобы понять, что имелось в виду arrogant sod (клавиши "s" и "d" -- соседние, опечататься -- как делать нечего) вот это все-таки неясно. Что такое вообще 'arrogant sob'? И чего это вдруг я вытаскиваю эту ветку из небытия? -- Сам не знаю. |
