Подскажите, как правильнее переводить фразы вроде "Михаил Прохоров переводит активы на Кипр", когда имеются в виду акции, доли в компаниях, а не оборудование и т.п. Контекст - новостные заметки.

Скажем,
"В 2010 году фирма X перевела активы завода Y в кипрский оффшор Z"
(Гуглом выясняется, что это было около 80% акций завода Z).

Вероятно, нужно писать shares вместо assets? Или как-нибудь использовать слова ownership, participation и т.п...

"Back in 2010, X transferred (some) shares of the Y plant to Z, a Cyprus-registered offshore firm" ?

Нашел упоминание законодательства по борьбе с укрытием бизнеса в оффшорах - используется выражение "перевод активов": "transfer of assets abroad legislation" (United Kingdom). Но мне кажется, что "X transferred (some) assets of the Y plant to an offshore comapny " все же не подходит - assets of the Y plant - это будет восприниматься как "оборудование и т.п.", имхо.

А чем Вам не нравится буквальное: "M.P. is transferring assets to Cyprus"? Достоинств аж два: близко к оригиналу и имеет смысл. :)

Скажем,

"В 2010 году фирма X перевела активы завода Y в кипрский оффшор Z"

(Гуглом выясняется, что это было около 80% акций завода Z).

Так что Вы хотите переводить -- не имеющий смысла оригинал или выясненное Гуглом? :)
