Subject: Legal English seminar in Kiev gen.
Dear Colleagues,

A translator’s ability to write clearly and correctly, using words that exactly express the legal meaning of the document, will be the basis upon which lawyers and clients judge quality of the translated product. Legal English has its own additional problems for translators and interpreters as it contains words borrowed from Latin, Norman French and old English. This archaic language also gives legal meanings to ordinary English words which are different from their usual conversational meaning.

WE WILL SHORTLY BE RUNNING A COURSE OF 15 LESSONS, AT TWO LESSONS A WEEK, IN KIEV, FOR LEGAL TRANSLATORS AND INTERPRETERS WHO WISH TO GAIN A GREATER UNDERSTANDING OF THE VOCABULARY AND THE LAW AND LEGAL IDEAS RELATING TO CONTRACTS. THE COURSE WILL ALSO DEAL WITH THE VOCABULARY AND LAW OF COMPANY FORMATION, FINANCE AND SHARE TRANSFERS.

THE COURSE INCLUDES:
Letter writing practice
Pronunciation practice
Spelling of Legal and Latin words
Explanation of legal doctrines and ideas
Explanation of meanings of legal words and phrases
Exercises to practice brevity and conciseness and accuracy
Legal vocabulary
Glossary with definitions
Course certificate upon successful completion
