A novel energy- and cost effective process for offshore liquefaction(="?" ожижение?) of stranded natural gas is developed. Natural gas is liquefied to LNG by utilizing the cold exergy in Liquid Carbon Dioxide (LCO2) and Liquid Inert Nitrogen (LIN), which are used as cold carriers. LCO2 is used for cooling in the first part of the LNG production. The low-temperature LIN is used at the cold end. The exergy (rational) efficiency for a thermodynamically optimized offshore process is 87 %. The process is self-contained with power and can operate with little rotating equipment and without hazardous refrigerants.

In the novel concept both CO2 and nitrogen are used as cold carriers. Captured and liquefied CO2 and LIN are transported offshore in a combined carrier. Offshore the LCO2 is pumped to injection pressure and heated by cooling of dense phase natural gas before it is transferred and injected in an oil field for EOR. The cooling duty in the cold end of the LNG process is provided by vapourization of LIN, which is emitted to the atmosphere. The LNG is transported in the same gas carrier to the receiving terminal, where LNG is used to liquefy nitrogen and CO2. Pinch- and Exergy Analyses are performed to determine the thermodynamically optimal offshore process.
